Meta Hero Analysis
Granger has been consistently on top of the META because he has the burst damage which is available early in the game. Both his first skill “Rhapsody” and passive skill “Caprice” (allows critical on the 6th hit) can inflict great amount of damage in the early game.
Popol and Kupa
Similarly, the same also applies to Popol and Kupa. Early in the game, Popol’s first skill deals nearly 280 damage, even when stunned by Kupa for 1s. Comparing this with Karrie, Claude, Moskov who need more aggressive farming in the beginning and can only deal with such damage after one or two items have already been built. Easily Granger or Popol can come up on top of these heroes. A recent patch has decreased his HP Boost (Passive) by 500 at all levels, but I believe this does not affect him much.
But if we dive into the late game mechanics, Claude, Irithel or Karrie are easily an S+ tier due to their Attack Speed and burst potential. However, this is offset by their fragility (specially for Claude, Karrie). Normally, good assassins and constant team-fight pressure should prevent Claude and Karrie from diving into the late game.
XBorg has been the first choice for most players who play fighter heroes because of his ease of use and skills that can annoy the enemies. He can harass with his Fire Missiles (first skill), CC with Fire Stake (2nd skill), and team fight AOE damage with his Insanity (3rd skill). In addition, he is quite tanky with max HP generated and shield. Another similar hero is Jawhead who can clear lanes with his 1st skill, CC with 2nd, but probably would be placed in third or fourth place in terms of ease of use.
A new patch on 11 May 2020 has buffed Masha in terms of CD reduction to her Ultimate and has also increased her Physical Defence. Thus, we might see an increased pick of her as a Fighter hero. Initially, Masha was a pretty overpowered offlaner when she was first released. However, she was nerfed later on and now again she has been buffed slightly.
Aldous deserves an S tier because of the stacks on his first skill (Contract Soul Steal) towards the late game. He basically turns into a one-punch man. Besides, he provides the vision to the team which is an important advantage, much like Helcurt. However, Aldous requires a steady early game in order to be efficient and that’s why he may be scaled towards an S tier or A+.
This hero is not much used in higher rank but he is good enough in harassing. Thamuz is also very tanky in general, especially paired with his Ultimate (Cauterant Inferno) which recovers 2% HP while dealing damage. His 1st skill (Molten Scythes) paired with his Passive (Grand Lord Lava) can deal high damage while increasing his movement speed at the same time.
Natalia is probably the most banned assassin in ranked matches. This is because Natalia won’t even let your MM farm in a match. She can be invisible due to her Passive. Her 1st skill (Claw Dash) deals 210(+40% Total Physical Attack) and this scales up to 285. If you pair this with an ambush, it deals 270 damage (+80% Total Physical Attack) while silencing enemy Hero for 0.6s. However, recent nerf (11 May) has decreased her Attack Growth from 10.5 to 8.75 and Attack Speed Ratio from 80% to 60%. This might mean failed ambush but she is still overpowered.
Helcurt is another hero which is very similar to Natalia. This hero can route into the enemy team and burst the MM. His Ultimate (Dark Night Falls) basically makes it worse as everybody loses their vision for 3.5s. His Deadly Stinger (2nd skill) can burst the enemies, similar to Natalia. However, the May patch has nerfed him slightly, reducing individual Stinger’s damage (decreased by 40 at all levels).
Pharsa is probably one of the most picked Mage heroes. This is because her Ultimate deals a lot of damage 620/770/920 (+160% Total Magic Power). Besides, she can also escape easily. Cecilion, on the other hand, has good CC skills (Sanguine Claws) but the damage output is lower compared to other Mages.
There is an increase in the pick for Valir in ranked matches. This is probably because he scales well with different combos due to his AOE skill damage, his passive (Ashing) which deals 0.6% of Max HP and his Burst Fireball (1st skill).
Kagura is an underrated Mage. She is very rarely picked because it is hard to master Kagura in terms of team fight synergy or even the combo. Kagura is a wonderful add-on to a team fight with her Ultimate ability (Rough Waves) and his stun ability (2ndskill) which stuns the enemies for 1.5s. She also has some crazy escape mechanisms with her skill. Kagura is definitely better than Valir and probably somewhat similar to Pharsa. However, her mastery is what deters many from picking this hero. The same applies to Kadita.
Chang’e is a highly picked hero because of her high burst damage from Ultimate (Meteor Shower). The current patch (11 May) has further buffed her Magic Power bonus(increase from 20% to 25%). Paired with her slowing ability (Starmoon Shockwave, 1st skill), she might be a scary Mage to add to a fast pace ranked match.
New update (11 May) has nerfed Uranus’s initial Physical Defence from 20 to 11. Thus, we might see a drop in aggressive Uranus, especially in the early game. Uranus could pair with a Fighter to harass your MM red buff in a ranked match. However, in terms of Tanks, Uranus is still a reasonable pick.
Johnson is mostly paired with Odette. However, this combo is getting old and if the enemy team has enough map awareness, Johnson cannot be much of a threat to them. If you compare the Tanks, Johnson still got the highest initial Physical Defence of 27 while Tigreal and Franco are at 25, Grock at 21 and now Uranus is down to 12. Thus in terms of Tankiness, Johnson is legit a punching bag.
Khufra got a nerf on his Bouncing Ball (2nd skill) where the additional damage that he deals with when he hits the ground has been decreased from 6% to 5% of his max HP. His basic damage is also adjusted from 30-105 to 50-100. Now, this is not a huge change as most of the time, his Bouncing Ball is used to slow the enemies while the MM kill the enemy Heroes. So, a 1% damage decrease does not seem like a big deal to Khufra.
Item’s Passive (Arctic Cold) does not stack anymore. The Passive lowers nearby enemies Movement Speed as well as their Attack Speed. The new patch does not affect the item much.
Lifesteal has been decreased from 15% to 10%. Unique Passive (Divine Justice) additional true damage reduced from 70% to 60% of Physical Defence. Heroes affected may be Jawhead or Lesley who depends on the Passive of this item.
Note: If there are any balance changes brought into the game, we will make sure to update the Mobile Legends May 2020 Tier list accordingly. Tier lists are highly subjective and everyone may not have the same opinion about it.
