Balance changes for Heroes in Arena of Valor May 7 Update Analysis
Kahlii: The Ghost Guardian
Skill 1: Soul Summoning– Slowdown: 10%, lasts 2 seconds, stacks up to 5 times > fixed 30%, lasts 2 seconds, no longer stackable
Skill 3: Ethereal Pulse– Base Damage: 70/90/110 (+9% of AP) > 80/100/120 (+8% of AP)
Kahlii is a late-game mage and is best suitable for mid lane. However, with increased damage she can now also be used as a jungler. Here’s a quick guide for the recently buffed hero.
Since Kahlii is vulnerable and immobile, you need to keep a distance from enemy heroes and farm as safely as you can during the laning phase. Playing safe is important since she is an easy target when it comes to ganking, especially when she’s not farmed. Using Soul Summoning (her first skill) you are able to quickly clear minion waves, or when low on mana using normal attacks you can easily do the same, thanks to her passive (don’t use your ult to do so, it’s recommended to use it just on heroes). It’s a really huge advantage if you want to roam early on. Remember to not overextend or you can give up the first blood in the first few minutes.
Remember to use her second skill (Spiritual Blessing) whenever you can in order to keep the movement speed and damage boost, especially during her ult. Do not forget that you are not invincible with it, it might save your life on rare occasions but it can be easily burst through.
During a team-fight make sure you won’t be the initiator and that you are able to cast your ultimate without getting anyone’s attention. Always keep your distance to make sure you won’t get focused on or jumped by the enemy jungler. Be careful and avoid stuns during your ult to not let the enemy team escape from your range. You should constantly move with the enemies for a better aim, make sure that the minion wave is cleared first as well.
Kahlii is not really good when it comes to one on one fights, she needs to maintain distance from the enemy hero to avoid getting stunned or ganked in the process, especially without any of the allies nearby. You should slow down your foe using your first skill and launch your ult towards them while making sure to keep your shield up the whole time. You can finish them with some basic attacks.
Ganking is very difficult as Kahlii. This is because you will generally need a teammate with a lot of CC to keep the enemy heroes in place. The best you can do is start with your first skill and activate your ult before your foe escapes. You can also wait for your teammates to erase most of the enemy’s HP and finish them up with your ult. Make sure to never stay still and help your team the whole time.
The movement speed boost from the shield is your only option when it comes to escaping. Casting your first skill in front of the enemy can also help by slowing them down and if enemy teammates are nearby, it can possibly finish them. If you have a small lead and your ult is available, you can cast it. Make sure to not get too greedy, the animation lasts around two seconds when you can’t move. This can give your enemy the time to keep up and finish you.
Ilumia: The Seer
Base Attributes– Movement speed: 340>350
Skill 2: Banish– Base Damage: 190/214/238/262/286/310 (+40% of AP) > 250/280/310/340/370/400 (+40% of AP)
Cooldown: 10/9/8/7/6/5 seconds > 9/8.4/7.8/7.2/6.6/6 seconds
Ilumia is a mid/late game mage with basic damage, low mobility, and a global ultimate. Here are some tips on how to use these attributes in battle.
During the laning phase keep your distance from the enemy and use her passive to harass at all times. Never get too far from your tower to avoid getting ganked, especially when the enemies have heroes with invisibility or/and high mobility. Ilumia’s wave clear is quite fast because of her passive so when there’s a need you can go roaming. Avoid using the river and go straight through your jungle. Don’t roam without a need or a huge gold advantage. Try to level up as fast as possible and help out your teammates using your ultimate.
Remember to trigger your passive often whenever you’re cleaning waves. Also, make sure to aim it correctly.
During team-fight, Ilumia should always stay behind and poke enemies plus clear incoming waves. Make sure to keep an eye on the map in case an assassin will try to attack from the back. If someone from the enemy team gets too close, you can use your second skill to push them back. Always keep your ult for the end of the team fight to finish the enemies or to stop them from escaping.
Ilumia is bad at solo fights. She lacks mobility and this makes her an easy target. She’s really easy to stun and kill because of her lacking flickers. If the fight is necessary, use your Skill 2, then S1, and then stun the enemy with your passive. Chain your attacks as much as possible to keep a distance. If available you can finish them with your ultimate.
Solo ganks with Ilumia when the enemy team is alone on the lane are possible but dangerous. You have to make sure your target isn’t close to any of his teammates. Avoid ganking heroes with more than 60% of their HP. You have to act quickly, especially if the enemy hero is really mobile. When your teammates are close, everything is much easier. Make sure that your team is aware of your presence around them. Before attacking, make sure you trigger your passive to stun your foe. If you position correctly, you can use your second skill to push the enemy hero in your teammate’s direction and later stun them with your passive.
Ilumia’s second skill is the most helpful skill in terms of escaping. You need to make sure to use it on time. Whenever you hit an enemy hero, it gives you a speed boost, so wasting it might get you killed. Using your first skill isn’t the best idea. This is because inorder to to cast it you need to stand in place, so unless you already have a distance between you and the enemy, it’s not worth it.
Liliana: The Elegant
Base attributes- Normal attacks: 156 > 165, Attack growth: 9 > 10
Skill 1: Shining Light-Tail Damage: 300/360/420/480/540/600 (+50% of AP) > 350/400/450/500/550/600 (+50% of AP)
Skill 2: Blinding Light- Missile Damage: 300/330/360/390/420/450 (+75 of AP) > 400/440/480/520/560/600 (+65% of AP)
Liliana is a mage suitable both middle lane and jungle (though it’s not recommended to jungle with her). Unlike other mages on this list, she has insane mobility and is really hard to gank. Here are some tips on how to use her.
During the laning phase, make sure to start with her first skill to clear the first few waves quickly to start roaming faster than your opponent. In the case of Liliana, you don’t have to fear walking through the river, but don’t be too reckless especially if you don’t know where the enemy opponent is. Use your second skill to poke the enemy in your lane and make the recall quite fast. You can use this opportunity to attack the tower or roam.
Liliana is a mage that you can be less worried about getting stunned, her mobility can help her avoid it. So with enough distraction from your allies, you can sneak onto the enemies back and finish their squishies. Make sure to land all of your skills, especially her S2 in the Fox form to trigger Reiki Shots which deal area damage. It can help you to finish more than one hero if the enemies don’t position themselves correctly.
Liliana is a good solo fighter. If you can land all of her skills she can finish the enemy hero without a scratch or with a small amount of damage taken. Starting in a human form, use her S2 then S1, then turn into her fox form and start with S1. If your enemy didn’t die yet finish them with her S2. Even if they won’t die, the enemy team will have a small disadvantage from their ally recalling. It can help your team push or take an objective.
Liliana’s mobility makes her a good ganker. It does not matter if she’s alone or not. Remember to focus on squishies and watch for incoming enemies to escape in time. Always start with S2 to stun your target before doing anything else. Otherwise, your target might hide under a tower. Despite it being hard to escape from Liliana’s grasp, if you go too far you can find yourself surrounded with your abilities on cooldown.
Escaping fights with Liliana is remotely easy. You can stun your chaser with the second skill then turn into her fox form for a long jump. Also, if needed, turn back into her human form after the cooldown passes. If your allies plan to gank the enemy hero, you can stun them or lead towards your allies direction.
Mina: The Reaper Queen
Base Attributes: Movement speed: 380>390
Skill 1: Whirling Scythe:
Cooldown: 8/7.4/6.8/6.2/5.6/5 seconds > 6.5/6.2/5.9/5.6/5.3/5 seconds, Mana: 75 > 50
Mina is a tank with a huge amount of crowd control. In a time where the meta consists of mainly high mobility squishies is very helpful. Here’s a quick guide on how to use Mina as support.
During the laning phase always start with buying a wind or the water stone (support items). Depending on the enemy team choose which of the two items will be more suitable. You don’t have to follow the support item that is recommended in a build, instead be flexible when it comes to the build. If the enemy team has a strong mage (or multiple mages) buy more items for magic defense, when the enemy team has a stronger marksman and assasin, focus on armor. You can mix as well. As a tank/support your build is important and when your team doesn’t have a second tank or a tank at all, hp and defense should be your priority.
Mina isn’t a good jungle invader but she’s good at defending it. You should always visit the jungle camp opposite to the one where your jungler farms. Wait for the enemies that might come. Always wait for all the laning enemies to appear and if your marksman is playing well on his own, you can wait for your jungler to come to the camp.
Always start with her second skill and max it along with her ultimate. Her first skill is good for clearing waves or optional finishing enemies, but the damage is not high enough.
Mina should always stand on the front line and catch incoming attackers with her second skill. Keep an eye on the back line in case an enemy will try to attack from behind. Never hook tanks, unless they have 30% of their hp. You’re only pushing the enemies closer. Don’t waste your ult on tanks as well, focus on the damage dealers and mobile heroes (like Murad or Nakroth).
Never chase or solo fight while playing Mina. She’s not a damage dealer in any way. Unless there’s an ally on the way, don’t bother or you might end up getting ganked. If your ally is close to you, first use your second skill to pull them close and initiate, later skill 2 and when your ally arrives, use your ultimate. If you’re not sure that you’ll get help after poking the enemy, or if the allies want to help you, don’t bother engaging. Remember to ping(notify your team) before initiating.
Always gank when there’s an ally besides you. Never go alone when you are playing Mina. Whenever you engage, start with your second skill first, later cast your ultimate, and pull the enemy toward your team. Make sure you catch the squishy heroes and avoid catching tanks.
While playing Mina the only option is to run. Casting any skills will lead to her death if you are alone. However, you can attack the enemy hero with your first skill to scare them away. And, if your allies are close, you can cast your ultimate to pull them closer.
Note: Please change the items according to the in-game situation.
Errol: The Tainted
Skill 1: Ghostscyth– Improved Handling
Skill 2: Boneshaver- Improved feel when no 5 Berserk stacks
Skill 3: Demon Claw- Added: Immunity to any type of control effects
Errol is both a jungler and DS laner. In this quick guide, you’ll find some tips on how to play Errol in the DS lane.
Start with his second skill for quicker wave clear. Before going to the lane stack Berserk on the near jungle creep (don’t finish it) and finish the wave with your second skill quickly. Remember to do it as often as possible. Using his first skill, you can quickly rotate from DS lane to the middle lane if your mage needs it. Make sure you don’t leave your lane for too long.
During team fights, stack your skill-2 as often as possible to regain health and stun the enemy team. With the jump from your skill-1 you can make a good combo. Save your ultimate for finishing the squishies or keeping up with the escaping enemy team. Look at the enemy build from time to time and avoid attacking heroes with anti-heal.
Errol is a good solo fighter, just like most of the DS laners. Don’t fear fights whenever your passive is stacked but be aware whenever your armor is decreased. Use your first skill to get closer to the enemy hero, then use your second skill to stun them and finish them with normal attacks or another use of the second skill. In case they escape or you are getting ganked use your ultimate to either getaway or to finish the enemy. Avoid attacking heroes wth the anti-heal item.
While ganking, always make sure that your Berserk is stacked. Also, try to attack single heroes starting with your second skill, or if needed get closer to the enemy using your first skill. Make sure you’re aware of the enemy team positioning before attacking, this way you won’t have to use your ultimate to escape. It can be used to finish the enemy hero.
